July Book Haul

IMG_4214

I actually bought these books last month. I procrastinated with the haul. But that’s okay. I have been so busy with the read-A-Thons this month haha.

IMG_4230

We Need To Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver & Room by Emma Donoghue

I have already read this book and gave it 4 out of 5 stars. I have to watch the movie. The book was really interesting.

IMG_4223

The 5 wave by Rick Yancey & The Infinite Sea by Rick YanceyIMG_4222

Hollow City by Ransom Riggs & Library Of Souls by Ransom Riggs

I read the first book and liked it. I think I’m going to read these two books in October. You know, like a spooky read for Halloween season. I don’t like too scary things. So these are perfect.

Wrap Up: Booktube-A-Thon 2016

I’m so proud of how much I read this week. I think it is a new record for me. I read a total of 4 books and 1052 pages, and finished 4 challenges. I read some good books and some bad books this week.

This is the books I read:

More Happy Than Not by Adam Silvera 293 pages ★★★★★

The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski 355 pages ★★★★☆

Zenith by Sasha Alsberg & Lindsay Cummings 62 pages ★★☆☆☆

Interview With the Vampire by Anne Rice 342 pages ★★☆☆☆

And this is the challenges I finished:

1.Read a book with yellow on the cover:

  • More Happy Than Not

2.Read a book only after sunset:

  • Zenith

3.Read a book you discovered through booktube:

  • The Winner’s Curse

6.Read and watch a book-to-movie adaptation:

  • Interview with the vampire

So I original had Zenith on challenge 3. But I changed it to The Winner’s Curse. I felt that I needed an audiobook.

Log of the week:

Day 1:

I started reading right after midnight the 18th. I started the readathon with More Happy Than Not. I read 217 pages. I really like the book so far.

I also started listening to The Winner’s Curse on audiobook. I found out that I needed an audiobook for the readathon.

Day 2:

I finished More Happy Than Not. It was so sad. Heartbreaking but so good. I highly recommend this book. I gave it 5 of 5 stars.

I also listened to 30 min of The Winner’s Curse. And started reading Zenith. Read 37% of Zenith.

Day 3:

I listened to 3 hours and 40 minutes of The Winner’s Curse today. I like the book. I listened to the book while I played the Sims 4.

Day 4:

I started Interview With the Vampire. This book is going to take longer time to read. I read to page 93.

Day 5:

Today has been a sunny day. I have been reading Interview With The Vampire on the porch. I read 110 pages. I feel that the book is really slow and boring.

boring.gif

I finished reading Zenith. The book was okay. It is really short. Too short to get into. But I like the setting and the idea of the book. I gave it 2 out of 5 stars.

Day 6:

I only read 87 pages of Interview With The Vampire. The book is boring. I want to DNF the book. But I’m continue reading it because of the read-a-thon. And I want to watch the movie when I finish reading it.

I also finished The Winner’s Curse. I liked the book. 4 out of 5 stars. I want to listen to book 2 ASAP. I also finished my build on Sims 4. I build a Romantic Garden Restaurant.

Day 7:

I finally finished Interview With the Vampire. I didn’t like it that much. I liked the overall story. But the pages dragged on and on. A vampire story should not be that boring. I gave it 2 out of 5 stars.

So I have to confess. I watched the movie the day after the readathon. I cheated a little bit. But that is okay haha. The movie was okay.

BookTube-A-Thon 2016

I had so much fun participating in the summer biannual bibliothon that was earlier this month. So when I saw that the BookTube-A-Thon 2016 was going to happen I had to join it. I’m not a book-tuber but I watch a lot of booktube. I’m going to participate in the reading challenges, but not the video challenges.

The BookTube-A-Thon is from July 18th to July 24th.

Here is the link to the BookTube-A-Thon’s youtube channel and video.

The challenges:

1/ Read a book with yellow on the cover

More Happy Than Not by Adam Silvera

This was on my list for the Biannual Bibliothon. But I didn’t manage to read it. So I’ll try to read it this read a thon. I think I’ll start with this book.

2/ Read a book only after sunset

Zenith by Sasha Alsberg & Lindsay Cummings

So where I live, in Norway. The sun is going down around 11 pm. I could not choose a long book, so I went with Zenith.

3/ Read a book you discovered through booktube

Zenith by Sasha Alsberg & Lindsay Cummings

Sasha Alsberg from Abookutopia is one of my favorite booktuber. And she and her friend Lindsay Cummings also a booktuber I believe, wrote this book together. I feel that this book is a good pick for this challenge, because two booktubers wrote it.

4/ Read a book by one of your favourite authors

This one was hard to choose. Because I wanted to read This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab for this challenge. But I have not yet received it in the mail. So I had to choose something from my shelves.

I choose to read Grave Peril by Jim Butcher. I want to read a fantasy book. And this is the 3 book in the Dresden Files. I like the books in the serie that I have read so far.

5/ Read a book that is older than you

Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury

This book is from 1953. It’s a classic. And I have not yet read it. It has been on my shelves for years. I need to read it now.

6/ Read and watch a book-to-movie adaptation

Interview With The Vampire by Anne Rice

I’m curious about this book. I don’t know if I’ll like it or not. But hey let’s try and read it, and watch the movie after.

7/ Read seven books

I have 5 books on this TBR. I don’t think I can finish 7. It is like impossible for me I think. I really want to try. But 5 is already a lot. Maybe if I read some graphic novels or mangas. But I’m not really into them right now.

Review: The Moorigad Dragon by Debra Kristi

29221693Published: 23 October 2014

Genre: Fantasy, Romance, Dragons

Pages: 120

Rating: ★☆☆☆☆

Kyra is a shapeshifting Moorigad dragon, she is one part fire dragon and one part water dragon. After having run away from home, she is now living in a mysterious magical carnival. This is also where she met her best friend Sebastian, whom she cares deeply for.

After rescuing the mysterious Marcus from drowning. She gets torn between the new young man that she feels a huge indescribable attraction to, and Sebastian. There is also someone or something who wants to hurt Marcus, and a mysterious force bounds her to protect him.

Thoughts:

I wanted to read this book because it sounded like a fun and entertaining read. I liked that the main character can shapeshift to a dragon. And the setting of the book sounded intriguing. I hoped that it was an interesting and fun short read.

I didn’t like the story and I didn’t like the love triangle. I also didn’t like the main character Kyra, she is irritating and she makes some stupid and dumb decisions. The whole book is about should I choose my best friend, or should I choose this dude I have known for only 2 hours. It gets old pretty fast.

I had problems with a few thing in the book. Like in the beginning when she rescuing Marcus from drowning. Why did Sebastian ger angry that she saved him? Should they just let him die. I don’t understand.

There is one place in the book where they are in a deadly danger. And she starts thinking about that men likes to be in charge and feel macho. I have to let him do all the work. Buuhu she didn’t want to take his masculinity. Bitch you are about to die, don’t think about his ego, try to save yourself from death.

5084122

I only continued reading to see where the story went. But the last part of the book is even more NOPE. And I just skim-read it to finish it.

The only thing I liked was the setting. The mysterious carnival with magical creatures. Now I’m intrigued to read more books with the same setting. I also liked that it was free on kindle amazon, good thing that I didn’t use any money on the book.

I gave it 1 star out of 5.

sorry

So I only read two books this month. Both books was slow reads for me. But they are both great books. I also read about 150 pages in Outlander. And over half of Golden Son.

– We Need To Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver –

This book is about 16 year old Kevin, who murdered 9 people in a massacre at his high school. The book is written in letter format from Kevin’s mom to his father. Two years after the terrible event.

I have not read anything like this before. It was an interesting dark book that made me think a lot. I will have a review up on the blog soon.

Rating : ★★★★☆

– Red Rising by Pierce Brown –

Red rising is a great dystopian science fiction trilogy. With a lot of action and political games. I have a review of this book
here.

Rating : ★★★★☆

July TBR:

This is the books I am currently reading and the books I want to read in July.

–  Outlander by Diana Gabaldon –

The next book I am currently reading is Outlander. I really like this book so far. It is easy to read, but it is huge, 896 pages long. I love the setting in this book. Outlander is a historical fiction, Romance novel.

It is about a girl in 1945. While she is on a vacation with her  husband in Scotland. She touches a circle of ancient standing stones, and gets teleported back to the same place in 1743. And she gets torn between two men and two centuries.

– Morning star by Pierce Brown –

I hope that if I have time at the end of the month I will start this book. It is the third and last book of the Red Rising trilogy.
