TOME TOPPLE READATHON // To Be Read

I’m going to participate in the Tome Topple Readathon. Since I just did the Summer Biannual Bibliothon and the Booktube A Thon, I’m not going to force myself to read a lot in this readathon. I have three books on my list, but I don’t think I’ll be able to finish all of them. It’s ok if I only read one or two, I will be happy with that.

This readathon is all about reading books over 500+ pages, and it runs from August 4th (starts today, sorry for late TBR) to August 17th. If you wan’t to know more HERE is the link to Thoughts on Tomes announcment video.

Challenges:
1. Read more than 1 tome
2. Read a graphic novel (still over 500 pages!)
3. Read a tome that is part of a series
4. Buddy read a tome
5. Read an adult novel

MY TBR

BOOKTUBE-A-THON & SUMMER BIANNUAL BIBLIOTHON 2017 // Wrap Up

The Booktube A Thon and the Summer Biannual Bibliothon are now over. I had such a great time participating this round, and I got a lot of reading done. In total I finished almost 5 books, and I read a total of 1368 pages. That is a huge number for me, I think this might be my most successful readathon to this date.WHAT I READ

The Color Purple by Alice Walker

  • FINISHED – 295 pages – 3 stars

Binti (Binti #1) by Nnedi Okorafor

  • FINISHED – 96 pages – 5 stars

Flame in the Mist (Flame in the Mist #1) by Renee Ahdieh

  • FINISHED – 393 pages – 3.5 stars

Every Heart a Doorway (Wayward Children #1) by Seanan McGuire

  • FINISHED – 169 pages

The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue (Guide #1) by Mackenzi Lee

  • DIDN’T FINISH – 80% read

CHALLENGES I FINISHED

BOOKTUBE-A-THON

1/ Read a book with a person on the cover.

I picked The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue for this challenge, but I didn’t manage to finish it. I did finish the challenge though, because Binti has a face on the cover.

2/ Read a hyped book.

I changed this from The Battle of the Labyrinth by Rick Riordan to Every Heart A Doorway.

3/ Finish a book in one day.

I finished Binti in one day.

4/ Read about a character that is very different from you.

My pick for this challenge was The Color Purple, and I read that book.

6/ Read a book you bought because of the cover.

I bought Flame In The Mist in hardcover just because the cover is so gorgeous. I finished that book.

I didn’t manage to finish challenge 5, to read a book outside, since I don’t have an outside space at my BF’s apartment. And I also didn’t finish challenge 7, to read seven books.

SUMMER BIANNUAL BIBLIOTHON

1/ Group Book Challenge

I read the group book, The Flame in the Mist.

2/ Read from the host’s favorite genre

Kassie – Magical Realism

Caz – Historical Fiction

Brittni – High/Epic Fantasy

Emma – Diverse Books

Kelly – Dystopian/SciFi

Red – Paranormal

Momo – Urban fantasy

All of the books I read fits in with one or more of these genres.

3/ Read a book that has been or still is banned

My pick for this challenge was The Color Purple, and I read that book.

4/ Throwback challenge

My throwback challenge was to read a book over 300 pages. The Flame in the Mist is 393 pages. I also read more than 300 pages in The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue.

5/ Book to movie adaptation – read & watch (@booksbydano)

My plan was to read and watch The Color Purple. I read the book, but haven’t watched the movie yet. I’m planning to do it in the future. I’m not a movie person, so I procrastinated this challenge. Technically didn’t finish this challenge.

6/ Read a book you’ve seen somewhere other than booktube (@pucksandpaperbacks)

My pick for this challenge was Binti, because I came over the author on Twitter before I knew about her books.

7/ LGBTQIA+ (@daily_booknerd)

My pick for this was The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue, since it contains a bi character and a m/m romance. I didn’t finish the book, but I did finish this challenge, since some of the other books I read counts. I didn’t know going into these books that they were LGBTQIA+ books. The main character in The Color Purple is lesbian and she is in a f/f relationship in the story. The main character in Every Heart A Doorway is asexual. READING LOG

BOOKTUBE-A-THON & SUMMER BIANNUAL BIBLIOTHON 2017 // To Be Read

Two of my favorite readathons are happening next week, and as always I had to join. The Booktube A Thon is running from July 24-July 30, and the Biannual Bibliothon is running from July 23-July 29. If you want to know more about these readathons, click here to get to their YouTube channels: Booktube A Thon HERE & Biannual Bibliothon HERE

BOOKTUBE-A-THON

The 2017 Reading Challenges:

1/ Read a book with a person on the cover.

2/ Read a hyped book.

MY TBR.png

1/ Read a book with a person on the cover.

The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee

Several of the books on my TBR fits this challenge, but I choose this book. This will be an audiobook.

2/ Read a hyped book.

The Battle of the Labyrinth (Percy Jackson and the Olympians #4) by Rick Riordan

I read book 3 in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians Series last week when I was in Croatia. I want to continue reading this series, and I think it fits perfectly to read in a readathon. This series is a perfect fit for this challenge since it is extremely hyped on booktube and outside of booktube. It’s a series everybody have read and loved. I actually think it might be a bit over hyped, but it is fun to read.

3/ Finish a book in one day.

Binti (Binti #1) by Nnedi Okorafor

I have been wanting to read this book for a while. Since it is pretty short I thought it would be doable for me to read in one day. Can’t wait to read it.

4/ Read about a character that is very different from you.

The Color Purple by Alice Walker

“Taking place mostly in rural Georgia, the story focuses on the life of women of color in the southern United States in the 1930s, addressing numerous issues including their exceedingly low position in American social culture.” -Goodreads synopsis

This will an audiobook read.

5/ Finish a book completely outdoors.

This challenge is up to the weather to decide if I finish or not. I hope the weather will be sunny and beautiful so I can read on the porch and tan.

6/ Read a book you bought because of the cover.

Flame in the Mist by Renee Adieh.

Look at the cover of this book, it’s beautiful!!! I bought it in hardback, just because the cover is so gorgeous.

7/ Read seven books.

This is not going to happen. I have 5 books on my list, and that is probably too many.

SUMMER BIANNUAL BIBLIOTHON

1/ Group Book Challenge

Flame in the Mist by Renee Adieh

2/ Read from the host’s favorite genre

Momo – Urban fantasy

3/ Read a book that has been or still is banned

6/ Read a book you’ve seen somewhere other than booktube (@pucksandpaperbacks)

7/ LGBTQIA+ (@daily_booknerd)

Flame in the Mist by Renee Adieh

I’m going to read the group book this time.

2/ Read from the host’s favorite genre

Kassie – Magical Realism

Caz – Historical Fiction

Brittni – High/Epic Fantasy

Emma – Diverse Books

Kelly – Dystopian/SciFi

Red – Paranormal

Momo – Urban fantasy

Most of the books on my list fits one of these criteria.

3/ Read a book that has been or still is banned

The Color Purple by Alice Walker

I had to look through all a lot of lists to find this book. It was hard because I had several criteria. It had to be an audiobook that was available on Storytel (Norwegian/Swedish app that is like Netflix for audiobooks), and it had to fit this challenge and the “Read about a character that is very different from you” challenge. I finally landed on this book.

4/ Throwback challenge

I chose this throwback challenge: A book over 300 pages. 3 of the books I’m planning to read are over 300 pages.

The Battle of the Labyrinth (Percy Jackson and the Olympians #4) by Rick Riordan

Flame in the Mist by Renee Adieh

The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee

5/ Book to movie adaptation – read & watch (@booksbydano)

I never watch movies, but I’ll try to watch The Color Purple if I can find it.

6/ Read a book you’ve seen somewhere other than booktube (@pucksandpaperbacks)

Binti (Binti #1) by Nnedi Okorafor

I found the author on Twitter before I heard about any of her books. I immediately fell in love with the covers of her Akata Witch series and had to look her up on Goodreads.

7/ LGBTQIA+ (@daily_booknerd)

The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee

I found this book on the Storytel app and thought it would be fun to listen to.

Tome Topple Readathon Wrap Up

The Tome Topple readathon is over for now. It has been be fun two weeks, and I read some great books. I finished 3 of the 4 books that was on my TBR. I read a total of 1777 pages and I’m happy with that. I was planning on reading another tome too, but I didn’t manage to get to it. It has been a very busy two weeks.

-WHAT I READ-

The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson

  • FINISHED – 643 pages – 4.5 stars

This book was FANTASTIC! I absolutely loved the story and the characters, especially Vin she was my favorite. The world building and the magic system was really great and interesting. Totally lived up to all the hype. Can’t wait to pick up the next book.

Blankets by Craig Thompson

  • FINISHED – 582 pages – 3.5 or 4 stars

I usually don’t read graphic novels, since one of the challenges was to read one I choose to pick one up. I liked the story and the drawings.

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

  • FINISHED – 11h9m – 552 pages – 3.5 or 4 stars

I have mixed feelings towards this book. I liked it in the beginning, but after a while I found parts of the book to be a bit repetitive, and boring. I kept on zoning out while listening to the book. Even though I didn’t love every parts of the book, the story did grab me. How could it not when it is about a young girl and her family living in Germany under World War 2? One thing I really liked was the narrator voice, it was an interesting choice.

-CHALLENGES--I FINISHED-

1 Read more than one tome

I read 3 tomes this readathon.

2 Read a graphic novel

Blankets is a graphic novel.

3 Read a tome that’s part of a series

The Final Empire is the first book in the Mistborn series.

5 Read an adult novel

Even though I didn’t read Kafka on The Shore, I did read an adult novel, The Final Empire.

Biannual Bibliothon Winter 2017 Wrap Up |Readathon|

I have had a really great week, it was so much fun participating in this readathon. I manage to finish 3 books, and more. I read 842 pages and I’m really happy with that.

This is what I read:

We Should All Be Feminists by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

– Finished 50 pages – 5 stars 5stjerner

Stalking Jack The Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco

– Finished 326 pages – 3 stars 3stjerner

Holding Up The Universe by Jennifer Niven

– Finished 9 hours/391 pages – 4.5 stars 4-5stjerner

The Republic of Thieves (Gentleman Bastard #3) by Scott Lynch

– Not Finished 1h06m

Heartless by Marissa Meyer

– Not Finished 47 pages

THIS IS THE CHALLENGES I FINISHED:

1.Read The Group Book Stalking Jack The Ripper by Kerri Maniscalo

3.Read a 2016 New Release

7.Read A Diverse Book

I almost finished challenge 6. Read a Retelling.

Log Of The Week:

Day 1

I’m starting this readathon with reading the group read Stalking Jack The Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco. This is a very interesting book, and I haven’t read anything like it before. I don’t think I have ever read an YA crime novel before. And I have definitely not read one set in the 1880 with a female Main Character that is studying forensic medicine, and is also investigating the Jack The Ripper case. I really like that the MC loves science and is studying forensic medicine, even though she is a girl.

20170109_162716

I also figured out that I needed to have an audiobook for this readathon. So I added Holding Up The Universe by Jennifer Niven to my TBR as the challenge; Book That Came Out In 2016. Why do I always do the same mistake and not include an audiobook?

Stalking Jack The Ripper 106 pages

Holding Up The Universe 1 hour

Day 2

I have been obsessed with HUTU today, I couldn’t stop listening to it. I have been listening to it while I’m playing the Sims4, it is so much fun.

The Lee family, and their luxurious home.

I have also read We Should All Be Feminists by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. I read it in one sitting. It is a really good essay on feminism. If you want to learn more about feminism and why it is important this is a great introduction, it is easy and fast to read.

I have also read a little bit in SJTR and I’m really enjoying it so far.

Stalking Jack The Ripper 36 pages

Holding Up The Universe 3h07m

We Should All Be Feminists 50 pages – Finished

Day 3

I didn’t manage to read as much as I wanted to read today, because I had an appointment I had to go to. While in the car to the appointment I didn’t want to use my 4G, so I had to listen to another audiobook that I have downloaded and can listen to without internet. So I continued with the audiobook I was listening to before the readathon; The Republic of Thieves (Gentleman Bastard #3) by Scott Lynch.

I have also been listening to Holding Up The Universe after the appointment, and I’m really enjoying that book. I really like the characters, especially Libby. I see myself in her and can relate to her a lot. I also find Jack’s face blindness very interesting.

In the evening I was really tired so I didn’t read a lot in SJTR. I really liked this book in the beginning, but now it has gotten a little dragging and not as exciting.

Stalking Jack The Ripper 27 pages

Holding Up The Universe 45m

The Republic of Thieves 39m

Day 4

I have read a good chunk of SJTR today, and I’m almost finished. I don’t find the book as exciting now as it was in the beginning. I keep on zoning out when I’m reading. I’m thinking of continue with Heartless by Marissa Meyer tomorrow, I’m looking forward to read another book. (I stared Heartless before the readathon and have 173 pages left in the book).

HUTU is still really good.

Stalking Jack The Ripper 86 pages

Holding Up The Universe 1h25m

Day 5

I only listened to HUTU earlier on the day, I had an appointment today too, so I have been busy with that. And in the evening I was completely hooked on the Sims4, because Sims4 got TODDLERS added to the game! OMG! I’m so happy and I couldn’t stop playing. The toddlers are so incredible cute!

Toddlers!

I was planning on finishing SJTR today, but toddlers and appointment took over. That is why I also didn’t read anything in Heartless.

Stalking Jack The Ripper 49 pages

Holding Up The Universe 28m

Day 6

20170113_220422.jpg

Random photo from our evening. Dirty dishes from our dinner in the background lol, and our pc. It can’t be better than food and gaming, haha.

I’m at my boyfriend’s apartment this weekend, and because I wanted to spend time with him I didn’t read a lot in Heartless. I did finish SJTR, that ending was intense and thrilling, and got my heart pumping really fast. I liked the book, but didn’t love it. It started really good and but after ca 100 pages it went downhill for me. I’m sad about that, because I really liked the idea of the book.

I’m almost finished with HUTU and I LOVE that book. It’s sad that I’m almost finished with it. I’ll read the author’s other book asap.

Stalking Jack The Ripper 24 pages – Finished

Holding Up The Universe 1h42m

Heartless 16 pages

Day 7

I didn’t manage to read a lot today because I wanted to spend my time with my boyfriend. I finished HUTU and it was sooo good. I loved it! Highly recommend it to everyone who likes YA contemporaries.

Holding Up The Universe 33m – Finished

Heartless 31 pages

The Republic of Thieves 27m

Tome Topple Readathon Wrap Up

The Tome Topple readathon is over for now, or actually it ends today. I had two books on my TBR, Tatiana and Alexander & Gemina. It has taken me so long to read Tatiana and Alexander, because the book has such a small font. My goal was to read 40 pages every day to finish it in the 2 weeks. I also wanted to read Gemina, but sadly didn’t have the time to finish it. I also choose to continue with the audiobook I was listening to before the readathon, Red Seas Under Red Skies. I didn’t put it on my TBR, but it technically counts because it is over 500 pages.

THIS IS WHAT I READ:

Tatiana and Alexander by Paullina Simons – Finished 559 pages – 4 stars ★★★★☆
Gemina by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff – Read 122 pages of 659 pages
Red Seas Under Red Skies by Scott Lynch – Listened from chapter 9-25 ca 250 pages

I really love the books I chose for this readathon. I really loved Tatiana And Alexander that book was beautiful. Red Seas Under Red Skies was also a great read. I don’t know what I think about Gemina yet, I hope I love it as much as I loved Illuminae. I read a total of 931 pages this readathon and I’m happy with that 🙂

THIS IS THE CHALLENGES I FINISHED:

  1. Read a Tome That’s Part of a Series
  2. Read an Adult Novel

logoftheweekDay 1

I’m starting this readathon with Tatiana and Alexander. I read the first book 2 years ago, it’s time to continue with this series. I got sucker into the story pretty fast today. This read is addicting, and I really like the author’s writing style. I read to page 73.

I have been reading in the living room today. Usually I only read in my bedroom, because like to be alone with no sounds or distractions when I read.

Both of my picks for this readathon are paper books. So I choose to continue listening to Red Seas under Red Skies even though it’s not on my TBR list.

Day 2

I didn’t read anything in T&A today, but I listened to Red Seas Under Red Skies.

Day 3

I had to go to the emergency room, don’t worry it wasn’t anything really bad, I’m fine. I listened to Red Seas Under Red Skies while waiting on the doctor.

I have read to page 133 in Tatiana and Alexander. Wow this book is beautiful written. I rarely feel emotions when I read, but this book makes me feel so much, oh the feels.

Day 4

Read a little bit throughout the whole day. Read to page 172 in T&A. I really really like this book so far.

Day 5

I read to page 199 in T&A

Day 6

I was out for dinner today. After coming home I read to page 240 in T&A.

Day 7

I went to the library today, for the first time in years. You can read my post called A Trip To The Library + Library Haul. After that in the eventing I read to page 302 in T&A.

Day 8

Didn’t read anything today in T&A. I finally started reading Gemina, I only read 16 pages. Ahhh the Hype I have for this book. Tomorrow I’m going to read a lot in this book, can’t wait. I’m already loving this book, I can feel it haha.

Day 9

I have read to page 84 in Gemina, and wow I really love the drawings in the book. The story hasn’t really started, so I don’t know what to say about it yet.

I read to page 324 in T&A.

Day 10

I didn’t read anything today. I’m falling behind now. I really want to finish T&A before the readathon ends.

Day 11

I read a lot today to try to catch up on my reading. I read to page 402 in T&A. I can actually finish this book if I want to. Gemina on the other hand. I don’t think I will be able to finish it, and I don’t really want to rush it either. I read to page 122 in Gemina.

Day 12

I read to page 459 in T&A. Omg this book is breaking my heart, it makes me so emotional.

Day 13

I read to page 521 in T&A today. Almost finished with this book. Only 40 pages to go.

Day 14

I’m publishing this post on the last day of the readathon, so no log for today. I’m going to finish T&A later, I have about 40 pages left in the book. I want to say that I highly recommend The Bronze Horseman series.

P.S. I stopped logging Red Seas Under Red Skies, because I think it’s hard to log an audiobook. I listened to it throughout the day like I usually do. Even though I didn’t log it, I did listen to it almost every day. At the end of the readathon I will count how many chapters I listened to, and approximately find out how many pages that is in the written book.

Tome Topple Readathon To Be Read

Hi I’m participating in the second round of the Tome Topple Readathon. This readathon is all about the big books, where the main focus is to read or start a book(s) with over 500 pages. You can get more information from the Creator of this readathon Thoughts on Tomes HERE or the Goodreadspage HERE. The readathon runs from November 18 to December 1.

I love readathons they are so much fun. This might be the last one I do in 2016. Let me know if there is a readathon for December, a Christmas themed one would be awesome. I’m looking forward to read some big books at the end of the year. I’m not being too ambitious with this list, but remember these books are long.

challenges
1. Read more than 1 tome

Tatiana and Alexander by Paullina Simons & Gemina by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

2.Read a graphic novel

I would love to read a graphic novel but I don’t own one that is over 500 pages.

3.Read a tome that’s part of a series

Both Tatiana and Alexander by Paullina Simons & Gemina by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff are parts of a serie.

4.Buddy read a tome (use goodreads and twitter to find buddies!)

I really want to buddy read with you guys. Leave me a comment if you want to buddy read with me.

5.Read an adult novel

Tatiana and Alexander by Paullina is an adult novel.

Spookathon Wrap Up

I had so much fun participating in the Spookathon. I’m happy with what I read this week. I rarely read thrillers so reading two thrillers after each other is very different for me. It was fun reading books that I usually probably would not read, and go out of my comfort zone. My goals for this week was to listen to two audiobooks and read one hardcover book. I almost finished my goals. I read a total of 828 pages this readathon.

This is what I read :

This is the challenges I finished :

1 Read a Thriller

4 Read a 2016 Release

Log of the week:

Day 1

I started the Spookathon with listening to The Butterfly Garden. I have been listening to the audiobook while playing Stardew Valley. I listened to 2h and 26min of the audiobook and read only 20 pages of Hollow City today.

Day 2

I have been listening to The Butterfly Garden and playing Stardew Valley for 3h and 8min today, pretty much the same as yesterday. I couldn’t sleep so I read 62 pages in Hollow City before bed.

Day 3

I listened to 1h and 19 min of the Butterfly Garden today. I’m not sure what I think about the book yet. I think it might be a 3 star read. The story around the garden is interesting and creatively written. There is something about the story that I don’t like but I can’t point out what it is. I don’t like the main character and she annoys me, and not in a good way. I feel like I can’t trust her, I think that is the point.

I read 33 pages of Hollow City. I like this book a little bit more than The Butterfly Garden but it is not a favorite either. I’m going to finish the series because I’m curious to find out what’s will happen to the children.

Day 4

Finished The Butterfly Garden. I didn’t like the ending and I gave the book 2 stars.

I read 69 pages of Hollow City.

Day 5

I started listening to A Monster Calls. I listened to half an hour and I liked the book so far. There is something wrong with the audio file so I can’t continue with the book. Sad 😦 I have to find another book to listen to now.

I started another audiobook, You by Caroline Kepnes. I changed the challenge READ A BOOK WITH RED ON THE COVER from Dark Matter to this book. I listened to 1h and 13min.

I didn’t read anything in Hollow City today because I was tired in the evening.

Day 6

I have been listening to You for 3h 50min today, and I like the book so far. I like to read from the narrator’s perspective, he is creepy AF. He is a crazy stalker wanting to be with this girl that he stalks.

I didn’t read anything in Hollow City. Now I’m worried I’m not going to be able to finish it this week. I have 100 pages left in the book.

Day 7

Yesterday I was worried that I wasn’t going to be able to finish Hollow City. Yeah I didn’t read anything of the book today. So I have 100 pages left in the book to read after the Spookathon is over. I have been so tired today that I have not been able to read a single page. Oh well that is life.

I have listened to 1h and 11min of You today though. That is something.
