Top 5 Wednesday August 2nd: Book Covers You’d Live In

118368Top 5 Wednesday is created by Gingerreadslainey. Each week there is a new bookish topic, where everyone can join and create their top 5 list. You can find more information on the Top 5 Wednesday goodreads group. This week’s topic is:

BOOK COVERS

YOU'D LIVE IN

– We all love a good cover but what are some covers you’d like to be transported into?

I love this weeks topic, it was fun to find covers that I would like to be transported into. I first went to my bookshelf and Goodreads shelf to find some covers, but I couldn’t find 5 books there so I had to search the interwebs to find the ones I like.

Firebird series by Claudia Gray

I LOVE the cover’s of these books. I haven’t read the books and I don’t know much about the series other than the main character jumps from different dimensions. I would like to get transported into the different places shown on these covers.

The Lies of Locke Lamora (Gentleman Bastard #1) by Scott Lynch

This is my favorite book of all time! I would love to visit Camorr, it sounds so beautiful since it is inspired by Venice. The towers you can see on these covers are the 5 Eldergladd towers that are in the city.

The Five Towers are five ancient Elderglass structures in the center of the port city of Camorr. –Camorr Wiki

Every Heart a Doorway By Seanan McGuire

Every Heart a Doorway (Wayward Children #1) by Seanan McGuire

I just finished this book, and it was very interesting. I would love to be transported into another world like the kids in this book, minus the big psychological factor of not be able to go back etc. Or just be transported into the nature that is shown on the cover.

BOOKTUBE-A-THON & SUMMER BIANNUAL BIBLIOTHON 2017 // Wrap Up

The Booktube A Thon and the Summer Biannual Bibliothon are now over. I had such a great time participating this round, and I got a lot of reading done. In total I finished almost 5 books, and I read a total of 1368 pages. That is a huge number for me, I think this might be my most successful readathon to this date.WHAT I READ

The Color Purple by Alice Walker

  • FINISHED – 295 pages – 3 stars

Binti (Binti #1) by Nnedi Okorafor

  • FINISHED – 96 pages – 5 stars

Flame in the Mist (Flame in the Mist #1) by Renee Ahdieh

  • FINISHED – 393 pages – 3.5 stars

Every Heart a Doorway (Wayward Children #1) by Seanan McGuire

  • FINISHED – 169 pages

The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue (Guide #1) by Mackenzi Lee

  • DIDN’T FINISH – 80% read

CHALLENGES I FINISHED

BOOKTUBE-A-THON

1/ Read a book with a person on the cover.

I picked The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue for this challenge, but I didn’t manage to finish it. I did finish the challenge though, because Binti has a face on the cover.

2/ Read a hyped book.

I changed this from The Battle of the Labyrinth by Rick Riordan to Every Heart A Doorway.

3/ Finish a book in one day.

I finished Binti in one day.

4/ Read about a character that is very different from you.

My pick for this challenge was The Color Purple, and I read that book.

6/ Read a book you bought because of the cover.

I bought Flame In The Mist in hardcover just because the cover is so gorgeous. I finished that book.

I didn’t manage to finish challenge 5, to read a book outside, since I don’t have an outside space at my BF’s apartment. And I also didn’t finish challenge 7, to read seven books.

SUMMER BIANNUAL BIBLIOTHON

1/ Group Book Challenge

I read the group book, The Flame in the Mist.

2/ Read from the host’s favorite genre

Kassie – Magical Realism

Caz – Historical Fiction

Brittni – High/Epic Fantasy

Emma – Diverse Books

Kelly – Dystopian/SciFi

Red – Paranormal

Momo – Urban fantasy

All of the books I read fits in with one or more of these genres.

3/ Read a book that has been or still is banned

My pick for this challenge was The Color Purple, and I read that book.

4/ Throwback challenge

My throwback challenge was to read a book over 300 pages. The Flame in the Mist is 393 pages. I also read more than 300 pages in The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue.

5/ Book to movie adaptation – read & watch (@booksbydano)

My plan was to read and watch The Color Purple. I read the book, but haven’t watched the movie yet. I’m planning to do it in the future. I’m not a movie person, so I procrastinated this challenge. Technically didn’t finish this challenge.

6/ Read a book you’ve seen somewhere other than booktube (@pucksandpaperbacks)

My pick for this challenge was Binti, because I came over the author on Twitter before I knew about her books.

7/ LGBTQIA+ (@daily_booknerd)

My pick for this was The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue, since it contains a bi character and a m/m romance. I didn’t finish the book, but I did finish this challenge, since some of the other books I read counts. I didn’t know going into these books that they were LGBTQIA+ books. The main character in The Color Purple is lesbian and she is in a f/f relationship in the story. The main character in Every Heart A Doorway is asexual. READING LOG

Sunday: Weekly Update #14 || Grandmother’s Funeral & My Croatia Trip

Wednesday: Top 5 Wednesday July 26th: Series That Got Better

-DIARY

This week I have been participating in 2 readathons. The Summer Biannual Bibliothon and the BookTubeAThon. It was so much fun, and I have read a lot more books than I usually would in a week. You will have to wait for my full update to see how it went, but it will be posted some time next week.

IMG_20170725_201657_019On Tuesday my mom and I went to visit a friend in town. She just opened her own store and of course we had to take a look at it. After the visit we went and got a coffee together at Starbucks. Starbucks came to my city just a few years ago, so I haven’t tried everything on the menu. This time we went out of our comfort zone and ordered a frappuccino with caramel syrup. It was delicious, but oh so sweet and unhealthy. How can people drink this every day? I will definitely have one again, but only in the summer.

The last few months we have been planning that I will slowly move inn with my BF, or at least try it out. I had to wait until my Croatia trip was over, because I didn’t have the energy to do other things than prepare for the trip, both mentally and physically. This week I have packed down all of my books that was at my parents house and moved them to my BF. Books is the most important to pack, haha, and underwear. Now I finally have a nice place to store all of my books, yay! I’m not 100% happy with the layout of the books, but I have less space than I though. I think I need to purge some of the books I don’t like anymore. A book unhaul might come in the future.

20170730_130943

I have been at my BF’s apartment (our apartment?) since Wednesday, and it has gone pretty well. We had plans for a barbeque yesterday, but I didn’t feel so well. I have been struggling with some enhanced symptoms and body aching this week. I think it might have been a bug or something, because it’s not my usual symptoms.

Do you have any tips on how I should organize this bookshelf?

I wish you all a great week!

Top 5 Wednesday July 26th: Series That Got Better

118368Top 5 Wednesday is created by Gingerreadslainey. Each week there is a new bookish topic, where everyone can join and create their top 5 list. You can find more information on the Top 5 Wednesday goodreads group. This week’s topic is:

SERIES THAT

GOT BETTER

– We’ve talked about series that went downhill with each book, but talk about series that are worth pushing through the first (or first few…) books to get to the good stuff!

I couldn’t find 5 series for this weeks topic, sorry for that.

Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

I haven’t read the 3rd book in this series yet, but I have read book one and two. I liked the second book so much more than the first book, and I hope and think that I will like book 3. Even though this series isn’t my favorite, and I don’t think they are the best written books of all time, they are pretty fun to read.

The Winner’s Trilogy by Marie Rutkoski

This is a YA fantasy trilogy that I’m loving. I really liked the first book, but I’m picking this series because book 2 is my favorite.

Friday: BOOKTUBE-A-THON & SUMMER BIANNUAL BIBLIOTHON 2017 // To Be Read

-DIARY

It has been a really busy week for me. We came home from the Croatia trip on Saturday, and on Monday we drove to the west Norway to attend my grandmother’s funeral. I didn’t have time to tell you guys about my Croatia trip last Sunday, because I had to use the day to pack and relax. I’m going to tell you about my trip in this post instead.

20170723_130454.jpg

On Monday we drove for 8-9 hours after my BF got off work. It was a really long day, especially for him.

The funeral was the day after. I’m so happy I had the strength to go, and my BF was able to drive me. The funeral was beautiful and sad, and I cried a lot. First we went to the ceremony at the church, and the burial. After that it was a memorial where food and cake was served.

On Wednesday it was time to drive the 8-9 hour trip home. I would have liked to be there some day extra, but my BF had to get back to work. He almost couldn’t get off from work Tuesday and Wednesday.

The rest of the week I was exhausted. I haven’t done much the last days other than reading and working on some blog posts.

20170723_130341.jpg

MY CROATIA TRIP

Now I’m going to tell you about my Croatia trip. The trip was so fantastic! It was my BF’s dad’s family who arranged the trip. His sister and husband/BF invited everybody down there to celebrate their 60th birthdays. 20170709_14185320170716_150942

My BF’s father rented this beautiful house in a place called Sevid, 30 min outside Split Airport. In our house we were 12 people. It was my father in law and his girlfriend, and all of their children with significant others. The house was so big it didn’t feel cramped, and thankfully I got a room without much noise.

20170716_15115920170716_150205

Our flight went from Oslo Airport early in the morning, so we had to wake up at 4 am. That is a lot earlier than I’m used to, but it went pretty well. I’m shocked, haha. Pro tip for traveling: Buy yourself a pair of noise canceling headphones. It saved me on the trip.

20170716_15384920170716_150545

The days got spent beside the swimming pool tanning and having a good time. In the evening we went to the local and only restaurant by us. The food was delicious.

20170716_15064120170716_15082220170716_151025

On Saturday we went home to Norway. I wasn’t as scared as I thought I would be for the flight. The trip went so well, and I’m so glad I went. As you might know by now, I have ME/CFS and have been extremely ill for many years. The last 2 years I have slowly starting to get better. This trip was a HUGE step in my recovery for a “normal” life. Even though I couldn’t do everything and had to take breaks in my room, it’s a huge improvement from how it used to be.

BOOKTUBE-A-THON & SUMMER BIANNUAL BIBLIOTHON 2017 // To Be Read

Two of my favorite readathons are happening next week, and as always I had to join. The Booktube A Thon is running from July 24-July 30, and the Biannual Bibliothon is running from July 23-July 29. If you want to know more about these readathons, click here to get to their YouTube channels: Booktube A Thon HERE & Biannual Bibliothon HERE

BOOKTUBE-A-THON

The 2017 Reading Challenges:

1/ Read a book with a person on the cover.

2/ Read a hyped book.

3/ Finish a book in one day.

4/ Read about a character that is very different from you.

5/ Finish a book completely outdoors.

6/ Read a book you bought because of the cover.

7/ Read seven books.

MY TBR.png

1/ Read a book with a person on the cover.

The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee

Several of the books on my TBR fits this challenge, but I choose this book. This will be an audiobook.

2/ Read a hyped book.

The Battle of the Labyrinth (Percy Jackson and the Olympians #4) by Rick Riordan

I read book 3 in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians Series last week when I was in Croatia. I want to continue reading this series, and I think it fits perfectly to read in a readathon. This series is a perfect fit for this challenge since it is extremely hyped on booktube and outside of booktube. It’s a series everybody have read and loved. I actually think it might be a bit over hyped, but it is fun to read.

3/ Finish a book in one day.

Binti (Binti #1) by Nnedi Okorafor

I have been wanting to read this book for a while. Since it is pretty short I thought it would be doable for me to read in one day. Can’t wait to read it.

4/ Read about a character that is very different from you.

The Color Purple by Alice Walker

“Taking place mostly in rural Georgia, the story focuses on the life of women of color in the southern United States in the 1930s, addressing numerous issues including their exceedingly low position in American social culture.” -Goodreads synopsis

This will an audiobook read.

5/ Finish a book completely outdoors.

This challenge is up to the weather to decide if I finish or not. I hope the weather will be sunny and beautiful so I can read on the porch and tan.

6/ Read a book you bought because of the cover.

Flame in the Mist by Renee Adieh.

Look at the cover of this book, it’s beautiful!!! I bought it in hardback, just because the cover is so gorgeous.

7/ Read seven books.

This is not going to happen. I have 5 books on my list, and that is probably too many.

SUMMER BIANNUAL BIBLIOTHON

Reading Challenges:

1/ Group Book Challenge

Flame in the Mist by Renee Adieh

2/ Read from the host’s favorite genre

Kassie – Magical Realism

Caz – Historical Fiction

Brittni – High/Epic Fantasy

Emma – Diverse Books

Kelly – Dystopian/SciFi

Red – Paranormal

Momo – Urban fantasy

3/ Read a book that has been or still is banned

4/ Throwback challenge

5/ Book to movie adaptation – read & watch (@booksbydano)

6/ Read a book you’ve seen somewhere other than booktube (@pucksandpaperbacks)

7/ LGBTQIA+ (@daily_booknerd)

MY TBR

1/ Group Book Challenge

Flame in the Mist by Renee Adieh

I’m going to read the group book this time.

2/ Read from the host’s favorite genre

Kassie – Magical Realism

Caz – Historical Fiction

Brittni – High/Epic Fantasy

Emma – Diverse Books

Kelly – Dystopian/SciFi

Red – Paranormal

Momo – Urban fantasy

Most of the books on my list fits one of these criteria.

3/ Read a book that has been or still is banned

The Color Purple by Alice Walker

I had to look through all a lot of lists to find this book. It was hard because I had several criteria. It had to be an audiobook that was available on Storytel (Norwegian/Swedish app that is like Netflix for audiobooks), and it had to fit this challenge and the “Read about a character that is very different from you” challenge. I finally landed on this book.

4/ Throwback challenge

I chose this throwback challenge: A book over 300 pages. 3 of the books I’m planning to read are over 300 pages.

The Battle of the Labyrinth (Percy Jackson and the Olympians #4) by Rick Riordan

Flame in the Mist by Renee Adieh

The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee

5/ Book to movie adaptation – read & watch (@booksbydano)

I never watch movies, but I’ll try to watch The Color Purple if I can find it.

6/ Read a book you’ve seen somewhere other than booktube (@pucksandpaperbacks)

Binti (Binti #1) by Nnedi Okorafor

I found the author on Twitter before I heard about any of her books. I immediately fell in love with the covers of her Akata Witch series and had to look her up on Goodreads.

7/ LGBTQIA+ (@daily_booknerd)

The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee

I found this book on the Storytel app and thought it would be fun to listen to.

Here are all the books I’m planning to read next week:

The Battle of the Labyrinth (Percy Jackson and the Olympians #4) by Rick Riordan

Binti (Binti #1) by Nnedi Okorafor

The Color Purple by Alice Walker

Flame in the Mist by Renee Adieh.

The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee

-This can include Middle Grade (but try to recommend more than just Harry Potter and Percy Jackson!) Feel free to talk about your childhood faves or more recent reads.

Astrid Lindgren

This post was supposed to be out last Wednesday, but I didn’t manage to post it in time. I’m posting it this week instead because I’m unable to write a post on this week’s topic. I’m currently in the car on my way home from west Norway.

Astrid Lindgren

I want to start this post with my favourite children’s author. Astrid Lindgren’s books are a staple read for every Scandinavian kid. Her books are very famous and have been translated into many languages around the world.

Here are some of my favourite books from her:

  • Pippi Longstocking (Pippi Långstrump #1)
  • The Brothers Lionheart
  • Ronia, the Robber’s Daughter
  • Mio, My Son
  • Emil i Lönneberga (Emil i Lönneberga #1)

Matilda by Roald Dahl

I remember reading Rolad Dahl’ s books as a kid. Especially the book Mathilda. I loved both the book and the movie.

Tow-Truck Pluck by Annie M G Schmidt

My mom read this book for me and my brother several times when we were young. I really loved this book, it was funny and weird.

A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket

I didn’t read this book as a kid. I read the 3 first books in this series last year, and loved them.

-DIARY

Hi everybody. I’ll just write a quick Sunday update today. I want to tell you about my trip to Croatia, but unfortunately I don’t have a lot of time today. I got home yesterday, and tomorrow I’m leaving for the west Norway to attend my grandmother’s funeral. She died last week and the funeral is on Tuesday. Today I have to relax, pack and prepare for the 8-9 hour drive.

Mid Year update – All The Books I Have Read So Far In 2017

In December last year I did a post on every book I have read in 2016. I thought it would be fun to do a mid year post about all the books I have read so far in 2017. As of 30. May I have read 41 books, that is 17 books ahead of my Goodreads goal of 50 books. I will finish my goal way before the end of the year, so I might have to bump it up a bit.
